About Akiba Lab
Numbers that grow with you.
Akiba means savings in Swahili. Akiba Lab exists to answer one question for every Kenyan saver: what does my money really earn, after tax?
Banks, funds and lenders quote rates in ways that are hard to compare. A 9% T-bill pays you about 7.6% after withholding tax. A 14% "flat rate" loan really costs about 24%. We build free tools that do that maths for you, and show every step.
What we make
- Free calculators for T-bills, bonds, money market funds, salary, loans, rent vs buy, rental income tax and investing from abroad.
- Plain-English guides to Kenyan money: how to buy T-bills, what comes off your payslip, how money market funds work.
- Spreadsheet templates for tracking investments and rental properties, built by a finance professional who uses them.
How we keep the numbers right
- Tax rules come from the Income Tax Act, the latest Finance Acts and KRA's own guidance.
- Rates come from the Central Bank of Kenya's published auction results and exchange rates, with the date shown.
- Every calculator is tested against worked examples before it goes live.

What we're not
Akiba Lab is an education site. We don't sell investments, take deposits or give personal financial or tax advice, and we're not paid by the funds or banks we mention.
