Terms of use

These terms apply to this website, its calculators, guides and embeddable widgets, and to the spreadsheet templates sold or given away by Akiba Lab. By using them you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
1. Education, not advice
Everything Akiba Lab publishes is general information to help you understand money in Kenya. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it doesn't take your personal situation into account. We don't recommend any particular investment, fund, bank or lender. Before you make a decision, check the details with the provider, the Central Bank of Kenya, the Kenya Revenue Authority or a licensed adviser.
2. Accuracy
We work hard to keep rates, tax rules and calculations correct, and we show the date and source of the figures we use. But rates change, laws change and mistakes can happen. Calculators give estimates based on the inputs you enter. If you spot an error, please tell us and we'll fix it.
3. Using the website
You're welcome to use the calculators and guides for free, for personal or business purposes, and to share links to them. Please don't copy the website's text, design or code to publish as your own, or use the site in a way that disrupts it for others.
4. Embedding our calculators
You may place our calculator widgets on your own website free of charge using the code on our embed page, as long as you keep the credit link under the widget and don't change, frame or present the widget as your own product. We may update or withdraw widgets at any time.
5. Spreadsheet templates: your licence
When you buy or download a template, you get a non-exclusive licence to use it:
- for yourself, your household, or one business or organisation (for example, one chama or one landlord's properties);
- on as many of your own devices as you like, and with your own changes.
You may not share, resell, give away or publish the template or a modified version of it, include it in another product, or remove the Akiba Lab name from it. If you'd like to use a template across several organisations, or to set it up for clients, contact us for a licence.
All templates, text, designs, logos and code remain the property of Akiba Lab. "Akiba Lab" and the Akiba Lab logo are our brand. Names of banks, funds and government bodies belong to their owners and are used only to describe facts.
6. Payments and refunds
Paid templates are sold through Selar, which handles payment under its own terms. Because files are delivered instantly, we don't give refunds if you simply change your mind. If a file doesn't open, doesn't work as described, or you were charged in error, contact us within 14 days of purchase and we'll fix the problem or refund you in full.
7. Limits on our responsibility
The website, calculators and templates are provided "as is". As far as the law allows, Akiba Lab isn't responsible for any loss that comes from relying on them, including investment, tax or business decisions. If we are ever found responsible for a loss, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the product concerned. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2012 or any other law that can't be limited.
8. Links to other websites
We link to other sites, such as the Central Bank of Kenya, KRA and Selar. We're not responsible for their content or services.
9. Privacy
How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute.
