Privacy policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
Who we are: Akiba Lab, Kenya, is the data controller for this website. Contact: hello@akibalab.co.ke.
This policy explains what information Akiba Lab collects, why, and your rights under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
Our calculators
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or stored by us. If you use "Copy link" or "WhatsApp", your numbers are placed in the link you share, and only the people you share it with can see them.
If you choose light or dark mode, that choice is saved in your own browser only. So that pages open quickly and work offline, the site also saves its own files (not your numbers) in your browser. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.
Information we do collect
- Website logs: our host (Netlify) records basic technical data such as IP address and pages visited, to keep the site secure and working.
- Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you or follow you across other websites.
- Newsletter: if you subscribe, we keep your email address to send the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Purchases: templates are sold through Selar, which handles payment and your details under its own privacy policy. We receive your name and email to deliver your purchase.
- Messages: if you contact us on WhatsApp or email, we keep the conversation to answer you.
What we don't do
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers above, who handle it only to provide their service.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent to emails at any time. Contact us at hello@akibalab.co.ke or on WhatsApp 0747 779 446. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (odpc.go.ke).
Our legal reasons for using your information
- Newsletter: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link.
- Purchases: to deliver what you bought and keep records the law requires.
- Website logs and visitor statistics: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and improving it, using no cookies and no profiling.
- Messages: to answer you.
Where your information is stored
Our service providers (Netlify for hosting, Cloudflare for visitor statistics, our newsletter provider and Selar for payments) may store information outside Kenya, including in the United States and the European Union. We only use providers that protect personal data with appropriate safeguards, as required by section 48 of the Data Protection Act, 2019.
How long we keep it
Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe. Purchase records: as long as tax law requires (currently up to 5 years). Messages: up to 2 years. Website logs are kept by our host for a short period.
If you live in the UK or European Union
You have the rights given by the UK GDPR or EU GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability. Contact us to use them. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK.
Children
Our products are meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
